The Lego Cars Building Set is a beginner-oriented set of Lego bricks that can be used to assemble a pair of vehicles and a simple gas pump. It also comes with a minifigure, so the set is compatible with the Lego City line. I like the idea of these specialized sets (there are also LEGO® Road Construction Set (6187), LEGO Castle Building Set (6193) and LEGO Pirate Building Sets) over a random bucket of Lego bricks since there are specified things to be built. This gets kids familiar with the building process and how things can be assembled before turning them loose on random pieces.
Complexity: This set is designed for a slightly younger audience than the Lego City line, so I was hoping my son could take a larger role in the building process. He did a bit more this time, but some of the pieces were just too small for him to assemble.
Playability: The cars in this set aren’t as neat looking as the typical Lego City vehicles, but my son didn’t care. He quickly added them to his City and the gas pump is now as popular an attraction as the pizza shop from the LEGO City Corner (7641). We’ve also scrapped both vehicles to come up with new car and truck designs, which is a lot of fun.
It’s a pretty basic set, but the Lego Cars Building Set is great for younger Lego fans that might not be ready for the Lego City sets.

My son is turning 4 so I’m buying the small size legos for him. The box came slightly crushed but I didn’t mind. If it was intended for a gift I would have been annoyed. Enough pieces to make a little fire truck and a tiny tractor and that’s about it. I got it really for the little fire truck. Very hard to put together for such a young child. He’s not ready for this yet. He can handle the small pieces but following directions is very complicated. Not a lot of pieces in set. Not a great value but ok for now. Includes the two vehicles, a tiny gas pump and one guy. That’s it, don’t expect any more.
